Engine Room Cranes

For handling of provision and machinery parts below deck level and to do service on the main engine, Dreggen delivers engine room and service cranes. The most typical engine room crane is an electrical operated type with electrical chain hoist as described below.

    General description

DREGGEN engine room cranes are made to suit clients' requirements, however we have two different basic types:

Standard headroom type of monobeam design used where the distance from crane runway beam to hook in top position is not critical.
Ultra low headroom type of duo beam design used where the hook has to reach as high as possible from deck level.

    Steel structure

The steel structure is manufactured from standard sand blasted and primed heavy beam sections and plates designed to give a rigid structure for carrying the load.

    Surface protection

Steel structure manufactured from sandblasted and primed material. After welding etc. the steel is cleaned by steel brushing and given a coat of zinc rich primer and a top coat.

    Colour

    Orange, or to clients' requirement

    Hoisting machinery

An electrical chain hoist is used for hoisting. The hoist is equipped with:

    - Chain collection box
    - Slip clutch for overload protection and for stop in top and bottom position of hook.
    - Two speed hoisting giving slow speed when accurate positioning is required.
    - Option: separately limit switches for top and bottom position of hook
    - Travel machinery
    - The crane bridge and trolley is running on single flanged wheels suitable for the specified runway beam. To secure safe operation against 2 degr. trim and 5 degr. heel, rack and pinion drive is incorporated. The gear rack is welded to the under side of the runway beam. Drive by electrical motors through oil filled gear reducers and pinions are engaging the gear racks.

    Motors

All motors are designed for crane duty, 25% ED, IP54, insulation class F and equipped with electromagnetic fail-safe brakes.

    Electrical equipment

Starters and transformer for the hoist are located on the hoist unit while the starters, transformer, fuses etc. for trolley and bridge included the main contactor are located in a separate panel on the crane. The panel is made in steel with IP 65 protection.

    Electrical power supply

Power supply along the runway to the crane and along the bridge to the trolley by flexible cables suspended from wire rope.

    Operation of crane

All motions (hoisting, bridge - and trolley travelling) are operated from a push button controller suspended from a separate track. Start/(emergency) stop button is included.

    Safety feature

    Following safety features are included:

    Start/(emergency) stop button.
Overload slip clutch, also for stop of hook in top and bottom position.
Limit switches for trolley- and bridge travelling.

    Parking

Special parking arrangement is included in our supply. Both trolley and bridge have to be secured at a convenient location during voyage.

    Design standard

The crane is designed according to the Norwegian Maritime Directorate and Class rules.

    Certification

    Makers certificate will be supplied.

In general Class certification from maker (DNV, L.R., etc.) is not required for this type of crane. However Class certificate can be supplied at an additional cost.
